Why I Keep Coming Back to Good to Great?

I've lost count of how many times I've picked Good to Great back off the shelf. Every time I do, it's usually because something at work has forced me to re-examine an assumption I didn't know I was making.

Jim Collins didn't write a book full of clever hacks. He wrote a book that quietly dismantles the stories we like to tell ourselves about how success happens and every time I revisit it, I find another one of those stories in my own thinking that needs dismantling.

Your Job Is Not Paying You a Salary (It’s Paying You to Become Valuable)

Most people walk into work every day believing they are simply exchanging time for money. While that may be partly true, it is far from the full picture. The deeper reality is that work is one of life’s greatest classrooms. Beyond the salary slip, every job is an opportunity to learn, grow, and build value within ourselves. If we shift our mindset from “I work to earn” to “I work to learn,” our careers take on a whole new meaning. Money becomes the byproduct, not the purpose.

Benefits Realization Framework: Turning Strategy Into Measurable Business Value

Organizations spend millions on digital transformation, ERP modernization, AI adoption, cloud migration, customer experience initiatives, and operational change programs. Yet many executives still ask the same question after projects go live:

“Did we actually realize the business value we promised?”

This is where a Benefits Realization Framework (BRF) becomes essential.

A Benefits Realization Framework provides a structured approach to ensure that strategic initiatives produce measurable business outcomes — not just completed deliverables. It shifts organizational thinking from “project completion” to “value realization.”

What Is Benefits Realization?

Benefits realization is the disciplined process of identifying expected business benefits, planning how they will be achieved, tracking outcomes during execution, measuring actual realized value, and sustaining benefits over time.

Be the Business by Martha Heller

In many organizations, technology still operates like a department.

  • A support function.
  • A delivery team.
  • A cost center.
  • A service desk with a larger budget.

Martha Heller’s book is not just another leadership book for CIOs. It is a transformational manifesto for technology leaders navigating a world where digital capability defines organizational success. The book argues that technology no longer supports the business; technology is the business.

For CIOs, CTOs, digital leaders, and transformation executives, this idea changes everything.

Why Enterprise Architecture Is Becoming a Board-Level Capability?

Enterprise architecture is no longer confined to IT governance, application rationalization, or infrastructure standards. It has evolved into a strategic business capability that directly influences organizational agility, mergers and acquisitions readiness, AI adoption, operational resilience, and long-term competitiveness.

Boards and executive leadership teams are increasingly recognizing that fragmented systems, disconnected data, and inconsistent operating models create significant barriers to strategic execution. As organizations accelerate digital transformation, enterprise architecture has become essential for aligning technology investments with business outcomes.

Enterprise Architecture Has Entered the Boardroom

For years, enterprise architecture was viewed as a technical discipline focused on standards, governance reviews, and system documentation. While those functions remain important, the role of enterprise architecture strategy has fundamentally changed.

Cybersecurity as an Operational Strategy: The Shift from IT Security to Enterprise Resilience

The Real Cyber Risk Isn’t Data Theft. It’s Operational Paralysis

For years, cybersecurity strategies focused on protecting systems, networks, and data. Organizations invested heavily in firewalls, endpoint protection, and compliance programs designed to reduce the likelihood of breaches.

But the cyber landscape has fundamentally changed.

Today’s greatest cyber risk is no longer just stolen information; it is operational disruption. The modern enterprise runs on interconnected digital ecosystems powered by AI, cloud infrastructure, third-party platforms, and automated workflows. When these systems fail, businesses do not simply lose data; they lose the ability to operate.

How to Rewire Your Organization for the AI Era

Digital transformation has been a boardroom priority for more than a decade. Yet despite billions spent on cloud migration, ERP modernization, analytics platforms, and AI initiatives, most organizations still struggle to become truly digital.

Why? Because technology alone does not transform organizations.

The One Skill Every CTO Needs That No One Talks About

Most people assume the most important CTO skill is technical depth. Others argue it is strategy, innovation, cybersecurity, cloud expertise, or AI readiness.

They are all important.

But the one skill that separates average CTOs from exceptional technology leaders is rarely discussed: translation.

Not language translation;but organisational translation.

The ability to translate business ambition into technology direction, technology complexity into executive clarity, and operational problems into scalable systems.

What I Look for When Hiring Engineers and Tech Leads? My Perspective!

Hiring great engineers is difficult. Hiring great tech leads is even harder.

In today’s technology landscape, many organisations still evaluate engineering talent primarily through technical checklists: programming languages, certifications, frameworks, and years of experience. Yet despite stronger resumes and more sophisticated hiring pipelines, many technology teams continue to struggle with delivery delays, poor collaboration, architectural inconsistency, and high turnover.

Learning from Clarkson’s Farm (I am obsessed with this show!)

Clarkson's Farm, a show I started watching because I'm a fan of Jeremy, and his farm has become my favorite weekend spot—it's just a 45-minute drive from my house.

The series has been a real eye-opener to me as I have never experienced the farming side of life ever. That was quite interesting.

Enhancing Student Experience with AI

The main criteria for a successful institution as per understanding are the below ones

  1. Superior academic delivery quality
  2. Student Experience
  3. Student Progression

IT passively supports the student journey from all angles. And it’s important to ensure the adoption of technology by the institutions. Especially in the AI era. Trust me I am still trying to see the balance when it comes to opening up AI for students and academics. An interesting area to analyze and expand.

With increasing student expectations for seamless digital interactions, institutions must leverage technology to create efficient, personalised, and data-driven experiences.

Microlearning, Microcredentials & Modular Learning: The Future of Higher Education

Higher education is undergoing one of its biggest transformations in decades. Declining enrollment, shifting workforce demands, and new technologies are forcing institutions to rethink their approach. Among the most promising innovations are microlearning, microcredentials, and modular learning—three approaches that make education more flexible, accessible, and career-relevant.

In this article I am trying to explore what they are, why they matter, and how universities can use them to future-proof their offerings.

Balancing Technical Debt and Innovation – How to Modernize While Maintaining Stability - My Thoughts πŸ’¬

As an IT leader, one of the most critical challenges that I constantly face is striking the right balance between addressing technical debt and fostering innovation within the department. While innovation drives competitiveness and business growth, unresolved technical debt can cripple scalability, security, and efficiency. Understanding how to manage this balance strategically is a prime focus for me to ensure the departmental growth.

Insights from Accelerate: The Science of Lean Software and DevOps

Accelerate: The Science of Lean Software and DevOps by Nicole Forsgren, Jez Humble, and Gene Kim is a game-changing book according to me. The authors identify key practices that help organizations achieve high performance in software development and delivery. Something we don't have to re-invent but rather adopt. I can say several factors are already in full fledge in my organization which I am proud about.

The Art of the Deal - Learning Reference

Top insights that I gained from the book for future reference.

BTW, loved this book. My preference is chapter-wise summary as given below:

Building Scalable Systems - Handling Hyper-Growth

Hyper-growth is one of the most exhilarating phases for any business, marked by rapid expansion, new opportunities, and an undeniable sense of momentum. Yet, alongside this excitement lies a unique set of challenges.

I’ve seen businesses stumble not because of a lack of ambition or potential but due to difficulties in planning effectively for future needs. Is this because long-term planning is inherently complicated? Absolutely not.

The Phoenix Project - My Thoughts

This book has been incredibly insightful and has been on my reading list for quite some time. The story resonates deeply with me, especially in how it connects to my work. It offered me a fresh perspective and a chance to reflect. While some principles might feel familiar or even a bit clichΓ©, it's always valuable to revisit and be reminded of best practices.

Here are some key takeaways and reflections from the book that I’d like to share.

Embrace Systems Thinking: Optimize the Entire System

Quantum Computing in Simple Terms

Imagine you have a really hard puzzle to solve, like figuring out the fastest way to visit a bunch of cities. A regular computer would try one solution at a time, moving step by step until it finds the best answer. This works, but as the puzzle gets more complicated, it takes a very long time.

UK Payroll Processing Steps

Quite important when it comes to learning the payroll foundations for UK. I have seen resources struggling to get their heads around the processing part as they think that its complex. In-fact, breaking the process down to the below simple steps will anyone with the basic HCM and accounting acumen to pick up and skill in the payroll processing aspects. It's all about ensuring the data accuracy and the number right down to the pennies.
